What exactly is
Planet Expo Charred Wood?

Planet Expo's Charred Wood undergoes a charring process, also referred to as Shou Sugi Ban or Yakisugi, presenting a modern approach to durable structural wood solutions for wall cladding, flooring, decking, interior panels, and designer furniture. This innovative technique has garnered attention from renowned architects worldwide. Our sustainable charred timber solutions, initially introduced in India, blend ancient methods with contemporary architectural demands, employing state-of-the-art technology for low-maintenance outcomes.

By subjecting the wood to modern charring, carbohydrates are reduced, lignin proportions are heightened, resins are burnt off, resulting in a wood product significantly more resistant to moisture, fire, rot, and termites compared to untreated wood.

We offer structural wood with
the following charring shades:

Espresso Walnut

The Espresso Walnut reveals the intricate knots and grains of the wood surface, creating an embossed texture reminiscent of woven fabric. Charred and finely brushed, it retains a protective layer of natural brown carbon. Treated with our exclusive blend of penetrating bio-friendly oil, resin, and wax, the wood fibers stay fresh for an extended period. Additionally, black carbon protection is applied to the reverse of the boards. With our Espresso Walnut, you can relish the authentic wood appearance for years to come.

Midnight Raven

Rooted in a 400-year-old Japanese tradition, our flagship product is crafted from charred wood. Its striking gator texture, known as yakisugi, has become a global inspiration for prominent builders. In Japan's historic neighborhoods, one can still find century-old claddings that bear witness to its resilience. Simply put, it stands as the most durable natural wood product worldwide, embodying intensity and timelessness. The Midnight Raven, with its enigmatic sculptural textures, exudes mystery. Its robust carbon armor ensures the preservation of its fiery essence for years to come.

Honey Pecan

Utilizing cutting-edge brushing techniques, we penetrate thick char layers, beginning with a deep black char, to produce an unparalleled contrast between pristine, clear textures and carbonized blacks on knots and delicate grain lines. Our in-house biodegradable colors are meticulously calibrated to achieve a delightful, fresh Honey Pecan glazing finish.
