What is Wenge Wood?
The Millettia Laurentii tree, native to Central and West Africa, along with several related species, produces the exotic lumber known as wenge wood. It is also referred to as African rosewood, imitation ebony, dikela, mibotu, bokonge, and awong.
Wenge is a distinctive dark brown wood that occasionally features lighter streaks or alternating dark and light stripes. It is a dense tropical wood, ranging from very hard to hard, and is naturally resistant to fungi, termites, and borers, eliminating the need for treatment. Wenge's versatility makes it suitable for exterior cladding, interior joinery, exterior carpentry, and parquet flooring. Kiln-dried wenge wood has a density of 45 to 55 pounds per cubic foot. Planet Expo is a reliable supplier of high-quality wenge wood.
